one-on-one individualized instruction for reading and writing skills
I've been teaching reading and writing for nearly 20 years, and I currently teach AP Language & Composition and AP Research in suburban Atlanta. I spent six years as Director of a university writing center, and I continue to use one-one-one conferencing as a foundational teaching method in my classes. I believe that writing is a gradual process and every student can improve with some focused attention and revision.
I tutor students with a variety of needs: from those with learning challenges struggling to make it through challenging curriculum to students aiming to perfect their writing at a college level. I can assist with current coursework or SAT preparation, but my favorite specialty is college essay writing, and my own personal essays have been published in a variety of places. (You can find some of that here and here.)
In 2018, I received the Vulcan Teaching Excellence Award from Brenau University, a recognition granted annually to one professor who illustrates excellence in the classroom and leadership in the academic community. And in 2025, I was honored to be one of only fourteen teachers and librarians nationwide to receive a scholarship to the Key West Literary Seminar. I'm also an AP Reader who scores essays for College Board each summer.
I love helping students grow as critical thinkers and as writers, and I'm available to help students online or in person in the Forsyth/Alpharetta area. Click New Student Inquiries to complete an intake form or reach out to me with any specific needs or questions.
